BYRD LAKE NATURAL AREA is a 144-acre site owned by the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission in Pine Bluff. The acreage encompasses Byrd Lake, an oxbow lake that interacts with Bayou Bartholomew when water levels are high. A wheelchair and stroller-friendly paved path winds through the pine and bald cypress forest. Exit I-539 at Olive Street, right on Main, then right on E. 52nd Ave. Parking lot is on the right.
COX CREEK LAKE is a man-made lake near Leola, created in 1964 by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission by damming Cox Creek, a tributary of the Saline River. Since the lake’s creation, the Game and Fish Commission has made improvements to the boat landing area, adding a fishing dock. The 260-acre lake is favored by area anglers, especially for bass, bream and crappie. There are campsites at the adjoining camp- ground. From Sheridan, take Highway 46 to Leola, right on Highway 229 and left on Lee St. Turn right on Grant County Road 2, then right on Frank Henslee Drive.
